Book Description
Unless the bay was completely frozen over, wind and tide action would cause open water on one side or other of the islands. Where there was water, salt water ducks could generally be found. Sometimes when hunting, we used to get a shot in the water. More times we had to shoot on the wing. The best time for this was just as daybreak when the ducks started to fly ashore to eat. The little protruding points of land were the best places. Common gunning points were Eastern Point, WigWam Point, Quarry Point, Shoal Point, Blundon's Point, and the Big Head.

Possession of the prime places was hotly contested. Sometimes people would be on the points hours before sunrise. Gazers(blinds) would be built out of chunks of ice and snow, chest high with holes to see through.
